How many porta potties do I need for my event?

Quick answer

Plan 1 standard porta potty per 50 guests for an event of up to 4 hours. If the event runs 5 to 8 hours, add 1 unit per 100 guests. If it runs longer, add 2 per 100. If alcohol is served, add 1 more unit per 100 guests. Round every step up to a whole unit.

Quick answer

A 100-guest event needs 2 units for 4 hours, 3 units for 5–8 hours and 4 units for 5–8 hours with alcohol. A 300-guest event needs 6, 9 and 12 units for the same three cases. Include at least 1 wheelchair-accessible unit in every cluster.

Method: Paul Rental Works dispatch rule — 1 unit per 50 guests for 4 hours; +1 per 100 guests for 5–8 hours; +1 per 100 guests for alcohol. Accessible units per 2010 ADA Standards §213.2 (5% of each cluster, minimum 1).

Worked example: 150-guest wedding, 5 hours, open bar

  1. 150 ÷ 50 = 3 base units.
  2. The wedding runs past 4 hours: 150 ÷ 100 = 1.5, round up to 2. Total 5.
  3. Alcohol is served: add 2 more. Total 7.
  4. Make 1 of the 7 wheelchair-accessible. Add 2 hand-wash stations near the food (7 ÷ 4, rounded up).

How many porta potties does a construction site need?

Quick answer

OSHA 29 CFR 1926.51(c) Table D-1 requires 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers, 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 40 workers for 20 to 199 workers, and 1 toilet seat and 1 urinal per 50 workers for 200 or more. Paul Rental Works recommends 1 unit per 10 workers with weekly service.

Worked example: a framing crew of 15 working 45 hours a week. OSHA minimum: 1 toilet. Our recommendation: 15 ÷ 10 = 2 units serviced weekly, plus 1 hand-wash station. Legal minimum and recommendation are separate — confirm with your safety plan. Official text: OSHA 1926.51. Farm crews follow OSHA 1928.110: 1 toilet and 1 hand-washing facility per 20 workers within a quarter-mile walk.

The people who answer (469) 326-3946, schedule the trucks and service units from our Rowlett yard on Lakeview Parkway. Reviewed October 6, 2026.
From our call logs: Only one sizing rule came up in the 69 rental calls we reviewed: “one porta potty for every 50 people” for a one-day event. In one call, a host expecting about 100 guests was steered away from a single flushing unit because its fresh-water tank allows only around 50 flushes.

How many porta potties do I need for 100 guests?

For 100 guests at an event of up to 4 hours, plan 2 standard units. Add 1 unit if alcohol is served, and add 1 more if the event runs 5 to 8 hours. Use our calculator for your exact numbers.

How many porta potties for a 150-guest wedding with a bar?

A 150-guest, 5-hour wedding with a bar needs 7 units. Start with 3 units for 150 guests, add 2 because the event runs past 4 hours, then add 2 because alcohol is served. Make 1 of the 7 a wheelchair-accessible unit.

How many porta potties for a construction crew of 15?

OSHA's minimum for 15 workers is 1 toilet. Paul Rental Works recommends 2 standard units on weekly service, or 1 unit serviced twice a week, so the unit stays usable all week.

Is 1 porta potty enough for a backyard party of 40?

Yes. One unit covers about 40–50 guests for a 4-hour party. Add a second unit if the party runs all day or serves alcohol.

How many restroom trailers do I need?

A 2-stall restroom trailer typically suits up to about 100 guests for an evening event. Larger crowds need a bigger trailer or added standard units. Dispatch sizes trailers by guest count, length and whether a bar is open.

How many hand-wash stations do I need?

Plan 1 hand-wash station for every 4 toilets when food is served, and at least 1 near any food or vendor area. On job sites, place a station next to the toilets.
